Cubs

Last updated Feb.2024

Cubs are for both Girls and Boys from 8 yrs to 11 yrs old approximately. Once the kids reach the age of 11 yrs they can move up to the Scouts section if they feel they’re ready for the next challenge.

We are Sea Scouts, however we follow the same scouting award programme as all scouting groups and add a naval/marine element to it as we’re one of the few groups in the country with an official Royal New Zealand Navy Recognition.

Cubs meet on Thursdays from 6pm until 7:30pm during school terms.

As a Cub your youth will do all sorts of cool stuff like day and night hikes, orienteering, cycling, kayaking, camping, basic boating skills, building outdoor shelters, outdoor cooking, water safety and many more activities that are part of our National Program; as well as some National, Regional, Zone and Group events that are planned throughout the year for all our sections.

Trial Nights:  Once you’re invited, you are welcome to try out Cubs for 3 consecutive weeks before deciding if you would like to join up (although you are welcome to join immediately without trialling).

Waitlist: Our Cubs Section is at full capacity at the moment (capped at 30 Cubs). Plus we have about 30 children in the waitlist, some still waiting since mid 2022, so we have decided to CLOSE our waitlist and we are not accepting new membership applications at the moment; unless parent/guardian volunteers to become a Cub Leader. (Last updated Feb 2024)

If you would like to get involved as a Leader with our group, please get in touch with the Group Leader here. For more detailed information about volunteering with us click here.
