SUMMARY:Pinewood Derby Race Night
DESCRIPTION:To all scout sections\, \nComing up towards the end of this term is our annual Pinewood Derby race night (week 9) and we would love ALL of you to take part. \nThis is a national event that all the scout groups join in on. Its hands on learning how to build\, being creative with decorating\, tapping into our competitive side with racing them against each other and the top 3 cars from each section get sent to Wellington for the National competition where you go against all the top scout derby cars of New Zealand! \nWe need to pre-order the car kits so please read this and if your child would like to join in\, you NEED to use the RSVP below to confirm your attendance by next Friday 25th July.  \nAbout the Pinewood Derby kits: \nEach pack contains the instructions and parts needed to build your own pinewood derby car. This is a brilliant activity to do along with a parent\, caregiver or extended family member – grandads have loads of tools they would love to help you with this! There are a number of templates that can be used or design your own. \nWe will be running the Pinewood Derby races in the week beginning 8th September. \nThere are prizes for the fastest cars\, the best looking cars\, favourite designs… all sorts! So it’s not just about what makes it as fast as possible. \nA simple google search of “Pinewood Derby Car Designs” will give you hundreds of ideas for designs\, shapes and painting. A search on YouTube for example will give you an idea of what the races look like. \nOf course\, what you see on these examples tend to be the elite\, that’s the way the internet works! Please don’t be over awed. The car is yours and yours alone. \nWhat you need to do \nAccept the invite here to order your car kit. \nCost of kit is $10 – this will be added to your invoice for the start of term. \nKeas and Cubs we will be running workshop nights as part of their term. You will need to bring your kit with you. \nScouts will likely have a night of split go-cart work and derby work so will have tools to use that evening. \nVenturers can either make their derby cars independently at home or are welcome to come along to the kea/cub/scout planned nights where the tools will be available. We can advise you when these will be. \nThere will be tools and supplies available for cutting\, shaping\, sanding and painting. Us leaders will be there to help. Parents are welcome to stick around to help out. \n\nYou can start your car with your parents/caregivers before workshop night and just bring it along to continue working on. Or\nYou can draw on your block ready for workshop and we can help cut the shape for you\, or\nYou can do nothing and bring it to workshop night and we will cut from a template for you.\n\nAfter the workshop\, you will have until the race night to finish off your car.
